ETHICON becomes worldwide distributor for Bulkamid®
Contura A/S has granted ETHICON, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company, the exclusive worldwide rights to market, sell and distribute Bulkamid for treating urinary incontinence.
Bulkamid is a hydrogel used in urethral injection therapy. Bulkamid is biocompatible, non-resorbable, non-allergenic and micro-particle free. It is injected under visual control using a specially developed and patented injection system. Bulkamid offers women suffering from urinary incontinence a safe, effective and minimally invasive treatment.
Bulkamid is currently sold by Contura primarily in the Nordic countries and to select hospitals in Germany and in the United Kingdom. ETHICON Women’s Health & Urology, a division of ETHICON, will begin to sell Bulkamid in several European countries later in 2007.
Contura will continue its development activities including the ongoing European multi-center study. Contura expects to file an IDE in 2007 to initiate a clinical study on Bulkamid in the United States to support a Premarket Approval (PMA) application.
